Abstract
Older adulthood is the final stage of human development across the life span. According to the Indonesian Ministry of Health (2009), older adults are classified into three groups: early older adults, aged 46–55 years; late older adults, aged 56–65 years; and elderly individuals, aged over 65 years. Aging is a developmental stage characterized by a decline in physical, psychological, and social functioning. These declines can affect the quality of life of older adults. Social support is therefore essential to improving their quality of life by helping them meet their daily needs.
Aging is the final stage of the life process, during which various physical, psychological, and social changes and declines occur and interact with one another, potentially leading to physical and mental health problems. Support from family members and people in the surrounding community can help older adults feel more secure and relieved, thereby reducing anxiety. Family social support can alleviate anxiety among older adults and increase their motivation to live. Social support and positive interactions with family members and others are important components of anxiety management. This situation is evident in several areas of Surabaya, particularly coastal communities, where many older adults experience persistent anxiety and struggle to survive by relying on their own abilities without adequate family support.
